What is there to learn about Peace?

Peace has a story as long as that of the human race.

What we learn today about Peace during ancient times is defined by the surviving possessions, creations and writings of its major characters and their supporters.

Evidence about Peace during the most recent millenium has been better preserved by its newer methods of recording and communication, including education. What’s known about Peace across that period reflects an evolving character and fluctuating patterns of relationships between regional and national populations.

.

But the most recent twentieth century saw international warfare that provoked profound reflection on the character of not only War but of Peace itself.
Fresh ideas emerged in universities. They directed attention to the roots of war and have shaped successful modern practices in the management of wars' underlying causes.

Global international co-operation has grown to successfully deploy and protect skilled peace-makers at work in some (though not all) of the world's most sorely afflicted places.

.

In this 21st century research continues on the causes of war and on possibilities for building peace. Increasingly we are able to make comparative measurements of Peace.

But there is much that is not yet widely known, not informing international leadership and not benefitting human relationships and lives.

.

The absence from general knowledge of a modern understanding of Peace limits the capacity of by-standers to understand its occasional triumphs and its many misfortunes. Even some professional news reporting creates unhelpful confusion and doubt through its undiscrimination application of the vocabulary of war, conflict and peace.
