Peace was hard to keep when it simply had no agreed definition.
Now though, so much is known about peace that there are:
- obvious things to avoid in order to keep peace secure, and
- clear things to do to minimise the effects of a conflict.
- For example:
- anticipate and deflect conflicts by sensitive vigilance, timely communication and generous negotiation
- be alert to possibilities for violence and refrain from indulging in them
- when recovering from a broken peace seek and use mediators acceptable to all parties
